History and description

The Allianz Arena was completed in 2005 and has been welcomed by both the club and the city. The construction of the Allianz Arena started in 2002 with a total investment of $340 million.

On the 30th of May 2005, the first match at the stadium, between TSV 1860 and 1. FC Nürnberg, was played. One day later, on 1 June 2005, Bayern played a friendly against the German national team.

The Allianz Arena was one of the venues used for the 2006 World Cup. During the tournament, it hosted the opening match between Germany and Costa Rica as well as the semi-final between France and Portugal.

The Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany was the site of the 2012 Champions League final between Chelsea and Bayern München. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with Bayern scoring in the 89th minute.

The arena was recently expanded with an additional 3,000 seats and then another 6,000 seats, mainly by creating extra space at the top of the upper tier and by implementing optimizations to the stands.

Despite the fact that the Allianz Arena soon turned out to be too small for Bayern Munich, TSV could not find a suitable replacement and struggled with high rental costs. In 2006, they sold their stake in the arena to Bayern Munich and agreed to a lease contract. However, they never felt completely at home and in 2017 decided to move back to Grunwalder Stadion, which had been their home until 1995.

The Allianz Arena will be one of the venues used for the Euro 2020 and Euro 2024 tournaments. It will host three group matches and one quarter-final during both tournaments.

How to get to the Allianz Arena

The Allianz Arena is located in Munich, about 10 kilometers from the city center. The stadium is adjacent to both the A9 and A99 motorways. If coming from the A9, take exit 73 München-Fröttmaning-Süd. If arriving from the A99 west, take exit 12b München-Fröttmaning-Nord.

If you are using public transport to get to the Allianz Arena, it is easy to get there via metro. Take line 6 in the direction of Garching-Hochbrück and get off at stop Fröttmaning. You can catch line 6 right in Munich?s old city centre at stop Marienplatz. The journey takes about 15 minutes. There are tram connections from both Munich?s large train stations (Hauptbahnhof and Ostbahnhof) to Marienplatz.

Address: Werner-Heisenberg-Allee 25, München

Eat, drink, and sleep near the Allianz Arena

The Allianz Arena is in the city centre, close to office and retail parks. There is very little entertainment in the area, so you are better off eating and drinking in Munich's city centre or heading to the arena to see the match. There are few hotels in the immediate vicinity of the Allianz Arena. If you are coming to the arena by car, there are a few roadside hotels one metro stop north of the stadium (in Garching-Hochbrück). Both Motel One and Ibis Hotel München Hochbrück are decently priced and get good reviews. Hotel Coro is a nearby alternative.

The Hotel Arena Stadt München is located one metro stop south of the stadium and theoretically at walking distance.

There are obviously other hotels in Munich's city centre, in particular in the area around Munich's main railway station.

Bayern Munich Tickets

You can buy Bayern Munich soccer tickets online or in person at the Bayern ServiceCenter located at Säbener Straße 51-57 (in the south of the city). While Bayern routinely sell out all of their home league matches, it is nearly impossible for non-members to get tickets. In fact, the only way to obtain tickets is to purchase them through Bayern's own ticket market place, which can be expensive. Viagogo, however, is a reliable source of tickets, albeit at a higher price.

Tickets can range in price from ?35.00 for a seat at the upper tier behind the goal to ?70.00 for most seats at the sides. Tickets for the standing areas behind the goals go for ?15.00.

Useful Internet links

This website is the official website of FC Bayern Munich and the Allianz Arena. It provides information on FC Bayern and the Allianz Arena as well as information on public transportation in the Munich area. I've been to the Bayern-City game at the stadium and it was amazing to see the passionate German fans cheering and screaming. The price is very affordable compared to other stadiums I've been to.

I have had the good fortune to visit twice, and both times I was awestruck by the sheer dimension and the quality of its infrastructure. The tour is worth every cent, and then some. If you are a football fan, and ever find yourself in Munich, treat yourself to a visit for an 1860 match or (if you are lucky enough to find tickets) Bayern Munich. It is an experience you will not soon forget!

The architecture is jaw-dropping, the fan amenities top-notch, and the atmosphere electrifying. There's nothing quite like a soccer match in a stadium full of passionate fans.

If ever there was an arena that was dedicated to sport, the Allianz Arena is it. I've had the good fortune to visit twice and both times I've been stunned by the sheer dimension and the quality of its infrastructure.

The tour is definitely worth every cent, and even more so if you're a football fan. If you happen to find tickets to an 1860 match or Bayern Munich game, go for it!

It?s an experience you won?t soon forget!
