AstonVilla
The English football team, famously nicknamed "The Villa", was founded in 1874. They play their games at Villa Park, where they've been playing since 1897! The club is also one of England's oldest members and a founding member of two major leagues: the Football League (1888) and the Premier League (1992).
Aston Villa is one of the oldest football clubs in England, having been founded in 1874. The club have won a total of seven leagues and FA Cups and have been European champions in club competition five times! With the change of ownership from Doug Ellis to US entrepreneur Randy Lerner, hopes are high that Aston Vila will enter a new era and become more successful than ever.
The history of football is long and storied, but no league has been as competitive as the English Premier League. These titles are not given lightly; only three clubs have won 20 or more domestic competitions, with Aston Villa fourth on that list! There is also an intense rivalry with Birmingham City, against whom they primarily battle for the title of The People's Club. West Bromwich Albion may at first seem like a competitor when you look at the two clubs' map (they are actually closer geographically), but it seems the chemistry between these two regions is far from good, 'Cause the stats show there ain't much hate...
The Birmingham Derby has always been a bitter rivalry between Aston Villa and Birmingham City. The first meeting of the "Second City" took place in 1879, and the colors of both teams were established: burgundy jerseys paired with sky blue sleeves; white shorts worn underneath this ensemble (and socks!) make the whole thing a beautiful whole on game day!
