As a kid, I loved going to Blockbuster. Whenever my grandfather proposed going to rent a movie or game on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, I would light up. Everything about going to Blockbuster was fun. It is truly sad that kids born after 2010 will never experience the joys of going to Blockbuster (or any video rental place, for that matter), picking out a couple movies, and then bringing those movies home to watch with friends and family.
I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I find the physicality and interaction of movie browsing to be more satisfying than simply clicking a button on my computer.
I know that I am probably dating myself here, getting nostalgic for a time when life was more rooted in the physical world than the digital (back in my day!), but there really is something to it, I think, to leaving the house in order to browse actual shelves lined with actual VHS or DVDs. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I find the physicality and interaction of movie browsing to be more satisfying than simply clicking a button on my computer.
When I turn on, say, Netflix or Hulu, it is usually a given that I know what I want to watch. And once my movie streaming site of choice loads up, it's guaranteed that I will be able to watch the movie I had in mind. Even though at the time it didn't necessarily feel this way, in hindsight, one of the perks of going to rent a movie from a place like Blockbuster was the possibility that they wouldn't have any copies left. In that case, well you had to get creative and find a backup. This is precisely how I stumbled upon some of my favorite movies - because they were all out of the one that I came for but I wasn't going to leave empty-handed!
Wow, it was amazing to find a Blockbuster just in time to get the last copy of the movie that I was coming for. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I loved the feeling of scarcity and urgency that came with it.
I could go on and on about my memories of Blockbuster for hours (nostalgia is a powerful drug), but don't worry, I will spare you that. Instead, today we will look at how Blockbuster has managed to stay in the movie rental game after the streaming revolution all but put them out of business.
Despite its far-from-dominant movie rental empire from years past, the legendary American company Blockbuster has survived into the age of streaming thanks to its Scandinavian movie streaming rental sites, such as Blockbuster.de. This seems strange, as it would stand to reason that a company with international brand recognition would do well in the highly competitive movie streaming rental space - but that's still nice to see. It appears that Blockbuster hasn't been completely wiped from existence in 2021, though this may be a result of its lack of international expansion into other countries.
Blockbuster may not be as popular as it once was, but streaming rentals through their services still offer a unique experience that cannot be matched by other providers.
Well, there's only one way to find out for sure whether or not Blockbuster.de is up to the challenge of competing with some of the most cutting-edge movie streaming sites on the web today- by diving in and taking a closer look at everything that they have to offer. Who's up for a trip to Blockbuster today?
Design
When you visit Blockbuster.de, you will find it to be highly reminiscent of going to the store to rent a movie. They have retained their iconic blue and yellow color scheme, and the site wastes no time before immersing you in a highly intuitive movie browsing experience. You will be greeted by an extra-large banner which carousals featured and suggested titles. This banner will either automatically alternate movie posters (along with their rental price), or you can scroll through at your leisure. The choice is yours.
While browsing any of the best movie streaming sites on the web, be sure to check out Blockbuster too. It has a gallery-style menu that closely mirrors the experience of browsing movies at Blockbuster.
Blockbuster.de employs very responsive and dynamic menus and other unique browsing features that make up for their lack of content. Scroll back up to the top of the homepage, for instance, and find the site menu bar. You will see here that the site is split into 4 basic sections: Movies, Series, Children?s Films, and Upcoming Movies. Hovering your cursor over the Movies section, for instance, will trigger a smooth and convenient dropdown menu that allows you to either click on one specific genre, or browse all movies if you so choose; this same genre filter will appear at the top of the page when you click into All Movies, allowing for a quick and simple means of browsing Blockbuster's extensive catalog of streaming movie rentals.
Content and Features
Blockbuster offers many features that would make even the best movie streaming sites today look like amateurs. For example, each movie comes complete with information like credits, extras, trailers, and ratings from IMDb. You can "like" titles to have easy access to them later (they will appear in your favorites).
I really appreciate the index of actors that Blockbuster maintains on their website. This way, if I watch a movie with one of my favorite actors in it, I can easily find other movies they have starred in available for streaming. I don't see why every movie streaming site doesn't do this, it's a great example of the kinds of features that I expect from one of the best sites out there.
As far as content is concerned, Blockbuster is just as versatile as it ever was. You'll find classics, new hit movies, iconic series, and even Netflix and Hulu originals. Don't expect to go to Blockbuster to rent or buy movies that have just come out, but if you wait a little while upon release, there is a good chance it will show up here (as was always the case with Blockbuster).
Mobile and Desktop Experience
Blockbuster appears to have adapted well to the 21st century model of movie rentals. Their site is dynamic, responsive, and top of the line, and they also have cross-platform availability, putting some of the so-called best movie streaming sites to shame. Rent and buy movie streams on an array of devices, including Android and iOS, PlayStation 4, Apple TV, Android TV, and select Smart TV brands.
Many people are surprised to find that Blockbuster is one of the more modern streaming sites available in 2021. It is a very competitive site, but it offers great access and usability for users.
Pricings and Plans
I think the cost of renting and buying digital movies on Blockbuster.de is right in line with what you would expect. Most rentals won't cost more than 49 kr, and some go as low as 19 kr. Purchases, on the other hand, range anywhere from 49 kr to 169 kr for new hit movies.
