Bloomfield Road: All you need to know - Tickets, Direction, Weather (2022)

This terrace was demolished in the late 1960s and a new one built to its place. In 1994 a new concrete stand (South Stand) was built on the site of the old north terrace, and in 2006 the original stadium (West Stand) was renovated. Today, The Football Association London consider themselves the custodians of this historic ground.

History and description

Football was originally played on Bloomfield Road in 1887. In 1899, a small stadium was built there and the first match was played on the 21st of October that year between South Shore FC and the 1st South Lancashire Regimen. Soon after, South Shore FC merged with Blackpool FC, so football now takes place at their stadium. Between the 1920s and 1930s, Bloomfield Road quickly expanded, growing to have a capacity of over 20,000 by the mid-1920s. In 1930, a new north terrace was built to increase the stadium's capacity to just over 30,000.

No further developments were made until in 1954 the East Paddock was extended. By the mid 1960s, when the stadium could hold only 22,000 fans due to standing areas being converted into seats, the Spion Kop received partial cover.

In the 1990s, Bloomfield Road experienced disrepair and safety requirements increased, meaning that it could no longer handle as many cars.

This was met with mixed reactions from the fanbase, but eventually the new stadium was built. Several initiatives were launched to build a new stadium, all of which failed to materialise. In 2000, the club changed course and presented plans to redevelop the existing ground. This was met with mixed reactions from the fanbase, but eventually the new stadium was built.

One year later, the Spion Kop and West Stand were demolished and replaced by new stands. In 2003, it was the turn of the East and South Stand to get demolished, but no new stands were built yet.

It took until 2010 for a new South Stand to be built. Temporary structures occupied the East End of the stadium, which were gradually improved, most recently in 2011.

How to get to Bloomfield Road

Bloomfield Road is located in the heart of Blackpool, just south of the town centre and near both the South and Central Pier. Blackpool South railway station is close to the ground, only a 5-10 minute walk away. Regional trains only stop here and it will take around 20-30 minutes to walk to the game if you start from Blackpool North railway station.

Address: Seasiders Way, Blackpool, FY1 6JJ

I'm really looking forward to the concert.

Blackpool Tickets

Tickets for Blackpool games can be bought online, by phone, or at the ticket office. Tickets cost £22.00 for most seats, or £27.00 for the most central places at the West Stand.
