To keep up with the latest entertainment news, it can be tough to decide which outlet to subscribe to. Each outlet has its own focus and approach, which can make it difficult to sift through all of the information. This constant flux in entertainment news means that it can be hard to know what is true and what is not. It's important to have more than one source of information so that you can get a more complete picture.
Don't worry, figuring out what you want is exactly what I'm here for. With so many great options available, it can be hard to decide which is right for you. But with my help, you'll be able to find the perfect one that fits your unique taste and interests.
Some people believe that you don't need a single entertainment news site to stay up-to-date on the latest happenings in the entertainment industry. In fact, it would make more sense to browse all of the best sources for entertainment news in order to get a more comprehensive picture of what's happening.
That being said, some sites of this nature are, obviously, going to be better than others. In terms of design, the quality of the content, and what kinds of content gets focused on more than others, there is no denying the fact that some entertainment news sites will be better tailored for your own specific needs. Therefore, having a solid go-to, default entertainment news site is certainly far from a bad idea.
It all depends on what it is that you are most interested in, as well as what you most value in a news site. Maybe you prefer an entertainment news site with a really slick design, one that is very geared towards user experience. Or maybe content is king, in which case you will probably want to be able to depend on a site with the best staff of writers. Perhaps your biggest concern is a site with longevity, like Rolling Stone or People. No matter what your core concerns happen to be, there is one site that caters to your needs better than all the rest. So whether it's a slick design that appeals to your interests or good writing and long-term stability that matters most, we've got just the right place for you.
Some entertainment news sites are started as blogs. This means that they are more in the know with what is happening with technology and design related to entertainment.
Deadlines, like most modern topics, tend to have a more journalistic tone to their articles. They are less involved and shorter in length - perfect for someone who is busy but wants to stay on top of their favorite shows, movies, actors, and entertainers.
If that description sounds like you, Deadline Hollywood might just be the site you've been waiting for. So, without further ado, let us dive into where Deadline Hollywood came from, how it functions, and whether it is worth your time.

The Deadline Hollywood news website was created by entertainment news journalist Niki Finke in 2002. It began as a series of columns called "Deadline Hollywood?" which appeared in the LA Times. From there, Finke turned her columns into a blog, previously known as Deadline Hollywood Daily, in 2006.
Met with immediate success, Finke decided to launch a website version of the blog, as an entertainment news trade site, that year (2006). By 2009, Deadline Hollywood became one of the most followed entertainment news sites on the web, an authority and institution in the entertainment news circuit.
At the peak of its popularity in 2009, Niki Finke, business savvy individual, sold Deadline to the Penske Media Corporation for an impressive seven-figure price tag. In addition to the sale of the site itself, Finke was given a five-year-plus employment contract which was, according to the LA Times, worth millions. This allowed her to continue working on the site once its ownership officially exchanged hands.
In September of 2009, Deadline Hollywood shortened its URL from to The name of the site, however, remained Deadline Hollywood. The publication broadened its horizons, expanding into New York City in 2010 along with the hiring of Variety magazine?s Mike Fleming Jr. as Deadline?s New York editor. Financial Times editor, Tim Adler was also added on to take charge of Deadline London. And Nellie Andreeva was brought on board to manage Deadline?s television coverage alongside Tim Adler.
Finke, the main editor of Deadline Hollywood until 2013, left after a reported yearlong dispute that she had had with Penske over their decision to buy out competitor trade magazine and website, Variety. Deadline still stands today, though, as one of the most influential and widely visited entertainment news sites on the internet.

Deadline Hollywood largely retains a blog aesthetic. I think this may just be my personal preference, but I am not a huge fan of the layout. When I go to a news site, be it entertainment, politics, sports, etc., I expect a certain air of professionalism. And that is not what I think of when I see a blog-like format.
Instead of offering a front-page appeal, Deadline has individual posts that are listed in a sort of table. They are probably doing this as an homage to Deadline Hollywood's roots, but I think that it takes away from the site's overall design. The top maybe 1/8th of the home page, however, does have this more news network-esque layout, but even still it is a little too flashy and cluttered for my liking, with a breaking story popup at the top and a few featured pieces scattered immediately below.

Deadline is a reliable source when it comes to breaking entertainment news. They are always up to date and their coverage of different stories is well-rounded. Their POLITICS section is also a welcome change of pace for an entertainment website.
For the rest of the content on the site, we recommend looking in the menu bar. Visitors can browse through the site by choosing one of the following categories: TV, Film, Awards Line, Box Office, Business, Hero Nation, International, Broadway, or Video (Deadline?'s TV video content).

Mobile and Desktop Experience

The mobile app of Deadline is much more professional looking than the in-browser site. It is streamlined, less cluttered, and easier to navigate and read. It reads more like an online publication and less like a blog.
Many iPhone users agree with me that the Deadline Hollywood app is one of the best entertainment news apps available on the Apple App Store. The app has an average overall rating of 4.7 stars (out of 5) from over 2 thousand individual reviewers. This could make it the best way to receive all your entertainment news on the go.

Pricing and Plans

Deadline Hollywood is an entirely free source of news and information. There are no paywalls or blocked content to worry about; you will have to put up with the occasional ad, but (pro tip) it's nothing to worry about with a good ad-blocker extension for your web browser.

Suggestions that I have for Deadline Hollywood

I think it would be a good idea for Deadline Hollywood to redesign their desktop site. Maybe they could use the sleek and professional look of the app's design. They should also change their blog layout to something more news-like.
Secondly, it would be beneficial to offer a premium experience of the site for a monthly fee. For example, an ad-free experience, exclusive content, maybe an occasional print version of the magazine? I believe fans of Deadline would readily pay five or ten dollars a month for something like this - some added perks.
