History and description

In the 1970s, the Dacia Arena replaced Udinese's old Stadio Moretti. The stadium was too small for the club and it was a significant upgrade to have a new venue. The stadium has been used for numerous events and has a capacity of 33,674. The construction of the new stadium began in 1971 and the stadium opened on September 26, 1976 with a match between Udinese and Seregno. It has been used for numerous events and has a capacity of 33,674.

The stadium was selected to be one of the playing venues of the 1990 World Cup. It underwent an extensive refurbishment in order to reduce its capacity from a maximum of 41,652 to 36,000. During the World Cup, it hosted three first round group matches.

Following safety measures, over the next two decades the capacity of the stadium gradually decreased to just over 30,000 people. However, the club rarely filled it to its full capacity.

In the summer of 2012, Udinese presented plans to redevelop Stadio Friuli into a modern arena with a capacity of 25,000. The plans included the removal of the athletics track and construction of three new covered stands in rectangular shape. The characteristic main stand would remain standing.

The club received planning permission in 2013 and started building works on the Curva Nord in the summer of 2013. The club completed the works early 2016. At the same time, the stadium got renamed Dacia Arena as part of a sponsorship deal.

In 2019, Pordenone Calcio moved into the Dacia Arena after they Promotion to Serie B as their own home stadium did not meet league standards.

The Dacia Arena is one of the few stadiums in Italy that is owned by the club.

Eat, drink, and sleep near Stadio Friuli

Stadio Friuli is located in an area that is a mix of residential houses and agriculture. While you will be able to find the odd local restaurant, there are few eating and drinking options, which is therefore better done in Udine's city center. There are no hotels near Stadio Friuli, but Udine's center, which is not very tourist-oriented, offers about a dozen decent options to choose from.

Udinese Tickets

Ticket sales for Udinese matches are now possible online through Listicket, at the stadium's Udinese Store or at one of the club's Udinese Point outlets. Udinese sell out a few high profile matches each season. Typically, those games against Milan teams and Juventus are the most popular, but tickets should generally be available.

Ticket prices for major league matches tend to vary greatly, with prices for seats near the turns costing around 10 USD, while central seats at the main stand can cost up to 60 USD. Expect to pay anywhere from 25-60 USD for a game that's of high interest.
