History and description

The John Smith's Stadium, also known as Kirklees Stadium, is one of the first modern-era stadiums to be built in England. It replaced Huddersfield's old Leeds Road. Construction of the stadium started in 1992 and continued until it was completed in late 1994 and 1998.

The stadium was initially called Alfred McAlpine Stadium, but it changed names in 2004 to Galpharm Stadium after a new sponsorship deal. It has been called The John Smith?s Stadium since the summer of 2012 after a new sponsorship deal was agreed with brewer Heineken.

How to get to the John Smith?s Stadium

The John Smith's Stadium is located north-east of Huddersfield town centre, and the main train station is close by. The walk will take 10 to 15 minutes at most. City commuters can also take the indirect train. There are frequent direct trains between Huddersfield and Leeds, Manchester, and other cities. City commuters can also take the indirect train.

If arriving by car, follow the directions to Huddersfield town centre. The stadium is clearly signposted at the approach of the centre.

John Smith's is located a short walk from Huddersfield Town center in an area that is a mix of retail, residential housing, and light industry. There is a cinema and entertainment complex right next to the stadium with a pub and fast food restaurant, but there are few options for eating and drinking right near the stadium.

The away end is far away from the pitch and the rake of the terrace is shallow and intimidating. I don't think it was meant to be used as a fan venue like this. There are big open corners that make it difficult for fans to enjoy the atmosphere.

I don't want to be too critical, but I think the stadium was built poorly for fans. The away end is way too far away from the pitch, and the terrace is shallow and intimidating. Plus, there are a lot of big open corners that aren't useful for football.

Dirty did write: 21 February 2016 at 3:24 pm The atmosphere at Huddersfield stadium is great and it really puts all other modern grounds to shame. I've visited all the stadiums in the Premier League and the Championship and this is by far the best. The Huddersfield fans are friendly and witty, which makes for a good experience.

The stadium is amazing, with an atmosphere that surpasses any other modern ground I have visited. The Huddersfield fans are incredibly friendly and witty, making the experience all the more enjoyable.

It was cold and raining outside when I visited, and it took me back to the late 50s. The toilets need a lot of work, and the staff were ok. The police were very helpful and polite. I doubt that I would go back, barring a game with a major reason, like the Cup match or League decider between Huddersfield Town and note the decade 20th century please join us you're very welcome.

There is not a very good atmosphere at the ground. The ground itself needs a good makeover to meet modern requirements and it is unpleasant to sit outside in the rain on a cold winter day. The toilets also need a lot of work, and the staff were ok. The police were very helpful and polite. I doubt if I would go back, unless there was a major reason, such as a cup match or league decider between Huddersfield Town and another team from the twentieth century. Please join us. You're very welcome.

I am not sure if the atmosphere at this ground is the worst I have ever been to. There is no chanting and the ground staff are very rude.
