The most beautiful football facade in the world with a modern and cozy feel as well as friendly family vibes from the stands. Het Kasteel is an Dutch icon.

History and description

They hired a construction company to build the stadium and they spent a lot of money on it. The stadium was very expensive to build, but Sparta was able to pay for it because they had a lot of money. In the early 20th century, Sparta was one of the most successful clubs in the Netherlands when they decided to build a new stadium. They hired a construction company to build the stadium and hired an architect who made sure that the stadium was beautiful. The construction company did all of the hard work, but Sparta paid for it all by having a lot of money. Het Kasteel is known for its unique atmosphere and its excellent facilities.

Originally, the stadium had been designed to accommodate a much larger crowd, but due to space constraints it was ultimately only able to hold around fifty-six thousand people. The most notable feature of the new stadium was its pavilion in the shape of a castle. The castle-inspired pavilion was inspired by a castle that had stood at the site centuries earlier. Due to construction limitations, the planned corner towers were replaced with simple wooden entrances. Originally, the stadium had been designed to accommodate a much larger crowd, but due to space constraints it was ultimately only able to hold around 56,000 people.

In the 1970s, however, the stadium got a facelift with new concrete stands and a new roof.

In the 1950s, Sparta presented plans for a new stadium that would have a capacity of 50,000. However, they finally had to settle for a more modest redevelopment in which two new stands were built on both sides. The resulting capacity is now 30,000.

Over the following decades, the state of the deteriorating much-too-large stadium slowly deteriorated, though some small renovation works were performed in the early 1990s.

Rumors persist of building a new stadium in another part of Rotterdam, possibly with Excelsior, but in the end it was decided to rebuild Het Kasteel at its present site. Work started on the project in 1999.

The old stadium was demolished and replaced with four new enclosed all-seater stands. The pavilion, the only remaining part of the old stadium, was moved from one of the ends to the centre of one of the sides so that it would be in the center of the pitch when it was turned 90 degrees.

How to get to Het Kasteel

The Kasteel is located in the Spangen area of Rotterdam near the Rotterdam railway station and the city center. The Kasteel is a 5 to 10-minute walk away from the metro stop Marconiplein. The stop can be reached with the metro lines A, B, and C, which can all be boarded at the stop Beurs in the city centre.

Alternatively, you can take tram 8 from the main railway station or any of the various city centre stops. Take the tram in the direction of Spangen, and get off at stop Spartastraat. The tram runs in a roundabout way, which means it takes 30 minutes to arrive.

If you want to take tram 21 or 23 from the main train station, it is best to take one of these trams and get off at the stop PC Hooftplein. This will take you close to the stadium, where the journey will only take twelve minutes.
