History and description

National Arena Philip II, recently renamed Telekom Arena and formerly known as Stadion Gradski Skopje, is a stadium that was built in 1947. The stadium was originally just a bowl-shaped uncovered stadium, but it has since been renovated and updated many times. The stadium underwent its first major change in 1978 when a new covered South Stand was built. The biggest changes were made between 2008 and 2013 when the stadium got almost entirely rebuilt.

Construction of the new North Stand began, followed by the construction of the two stands behind the goals. Finally, refurbishment of the South Stand, athletics track, and facade were completed.

The Telekom Arena changed its name to match the company's sponsorship agreement in 2016.

The National Arena Philip II has been selected to host the 2017 European Super Cup match. The stadium is very well-known for its great playing conditions, it is the standard playing venue for the Macedonian national team.

Vardar tickets were available on the day from a tent outside the stadium and cost me 600 denars (about £9). Skopje is a very nice and cheap city to visit.
