In 2015, DC United announced their new stadium project, which would be built approximately three miles from the current RFK Stadium. The proposed new stadium would seat over 28,000 people and have a number of features available to make the experience for fans unique. It would also feature a new training facility and a hotel. Plans for this stadium were first made around 2005 but were abandoned due to lack of funding and lack of support from the local council. The proposed new stadium would seat over 28,000 people and have a number of features available to make the experience for fans unique. It would also feature a new training facility and a hotel. The stadium would be built on a site which is currently used for parking lots and a small QuikTrip convenience store. In 2011, proposals were made to build a new DC United stadium in Buzzard Point, south of the Nationals Park baseball stadium.
