The stadium has a total capacity of 54,000 spectators and is Spain's largest football arena. Tarragona City Stadium was built in the early 1970s by club president José Luis Calderón. The stadium has a total capacity of 54,000 spectators and is Spain's largest football arena. The stadium officially opened on February 2, 1972 with a friendly against Barcelona. At its opening, the stadium could only hold 18,000 spectators. However, over the years this number was reduced due to safety measures and various modifications. As of 2018, the stadium can only hold 11,000 spectators due to safety concerns.

In 2006, a new stand was built at Nou Estadi following Gimnastic's promotion to La Liga.

The stadium has been selected to host events during the 2017 Mediterranean Games in Tarragona, Spain.

How to get to Nou Estadi

The stadium is set in a natural amphitheatre and has a capacity of 41,500. The Nou Estadi stadium is located on the north-eastern edge of the city of Tarragona and about 2 kilometers from the old center of the city and a kilometer more from Tarragona's railway station. The stadium has a capacity of 41,500 people. The walk from the old town to the stadium takes about 25 minutes, and it is furthermore only a 10-minute walk away from the nearest beach, Playa Arrabassada.

The stadium can be reached by bus 8. Take the bus from the Rambla Vella near the old town. Get off at stop Estadi. On matchdays, buses 2, 3, and 5 have a changed route and also stop at the stadium. Buses can be caught at Pau Casals or the Rambla Vella.

There are frequent trains connecting Tarragona with Barcelona. The journey takes thirty minutes to one and a half hours depending on which type of train you choose - a more expensive quick service or a slower regional train. There is furthermore a regular direct service from Valencia and a few direct trains a day from Madrid.

Gimnastic de Tarragona Tickets

To buy tickets for the next Gimnastic game, go to the club office at the stadium on week before the match. Tickets are currently available to purchase from the ticket windows of the stadium two hours before the match. Although Gimnastic tends to sell out most matches, this may not be the case for this particular match.

Ticket prices can depend on the opponent, but expect to pay from $15.00 for a seat behind the goal to $35.00 for a seat at the main stand.
