The most anticipated new movie streaming site of 2021 has officially arrived. That's right, Paramount Plus launched on March 3rd of this year, and it has already generated a great deal of hype among movie and TV lovers alike. As the passion project of one of the most respected and longest-running film studios in the world, Paramount Pictures, Paramount Plus promises to be an overnight success, instantly skyrocketing into conversations of the best movie streaming sites. No doubt, by the end of the year, when people discuss the best movie streaming sites available, they will list the usual suspects - Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, etc. - but Paramount Plus is also likely to be thrown in the mix.
Paramount Plus is planning to release a lot of high-quality exclusive and original content in the next few months, which will make it one of the great streaming services. They have already announced some amazing things, like the return of Mike Judge's Bevis and Butthead with a new movie, a reboot of the beloved SpongeBob SquarePants universe, a TV series based on the incredibly popular Halo video games, and an updated take on Avatar: The Last Airbender - all of which will coincide with theatrical releases. This makes me very confident that Paramount Plus will be listed among the top streaming services.
Paramount Plus is a new streaming service that will come complete with CBS All Access' highly sought-after Star Trek catalog and a wealth of CBS syndicated content. As of March 3, 2021, everyone who has CBS All Access will have access to Paramount Plus.
This movie streaming site will have unprecedented access to popular TV programming, as well as the entire catalog of Paramount Pictures movies. This is an alluring feature for users, who can count on enjoying some of their favorite hard-to-find shows.
If you're looking for a minimal live TV streaming service that also offers a wide selection of streaming content, then Paramount Plus may be the right choice for you. Compared to other live TV streaming services, the selection here may be a little thin, but depending on your viewing habits this might not be an issue. We'll go into greater depth on that later on.
I believe that Paramount Plus is a high-quality movie streaming site that offers something different from the other sites out there. In a market that is becoming oversaturated, a site that offers a unique viewing experience will be welcomed with open arms. However, does Paramount Plus have what it takes to be called the best movie streaming site available? Let's take a closer look and find out. There is only so much room in our budgets for monthly subscription fees, after all.
Design
Paramount Plus presents an impressive site design, given its 108-year history and recent merger with Viacom CBS. The conglomerate's budget provides a level of refinement and detail that most other movie streaming sites could only dream of. This is apparent in the sleek, dynamic design of Paramount Plus, which is nearly flawless.
This layout is easy to navigate and makes finding what you're looking for a breeze.
It's not as if the people at Paramount are doing a whole lot to revolutionize movie streaming site design or anything, but they have come pretty close to perfecting it. The home page of the site, for instance, is bound to look fairly familiar to anybody who has used a premium movie streaming site like Netflix or Hulu before. You'll be greeted by a large banner atop the page which promotes featured and promoted movies and shows. Below that, as per usual, you can scroll through descending rows of content, organized by genre and category. This layout is easy to navigate and makes finding what you're looking for a breeze.
Paramount Plus has a row of channels in between the banner and the browsing menu, which allows you to quickly navigate between its hubs if you like. Click on MTV, BET, VH1, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, etc., to be transported to their own pages, where I find my only design complaint.
It would be nice if the hub pages offered more options for filtering content, such as being able to browse by genre on the MTV page. I find it hard to navigate through everything offered by MTV when I am looking for something specific. The hubs should also be organized in a way similar to the main movies and TV pages so that it is easier to find what I am looking for.
Content and Features
Paramount Plus offers about 30,000 TV shows and hundreds of movies. This service has a lot of high-quality content, thanks to a unique blend of original and syndicated content and exclusive releases on the horizon.
If you're looking for a good movie streaming site that offers access to your local CBS live stream, Paramount Plus might not be the best option. However, you will at least have access to your local CBS live stream - just the primetime shows. Local news and much of the daytime programming will not be aired here.
Where Paramount Plus makes up for this, though, is its impressive live sports coverage. Unlike many other streaming services, Paramount Plus does not charge extra in exchange for access to live sports streaming. No matter what plan you choose, everyone can watch any games that are broadcast on CBS TV and the CBS Sports Network.
That means that subscribers can watch select NFL games, NCAA March Madness games, college hockey, and Masters golf. If you are a soccer fan, fear not; Paramount Plus offers an impressive lineup of EUFA matches, as well as the National Women's Soccer League. Paramount Plus probably won't be the only streaming site you'll need to have all of your sports needs met, but it will get you much closer than most other movie streaming sites on the market.
Mobile and Desktop Experience
Paramount Plus has mobile apps that are just as intuitive, user-friendly, and effective as the desktop site. The app only been available on the Apple App Store for one day, and it has already received 171,000 ratings and an average user rating of 4.5 out of 5.
Paramount Plus is available on literally any device, from Roku to Xbox and everything in between. However, Paramount is not compatible with LG Smart TVs, Nintendo Switch, or Wii.
Pricing and Plans
It is becoming increasingly common for the best movie streaming sites to offer two basic subscription tiers: one that includes ads and one that is ad-free. This is also the case for Paramount Plus. If you do not mind putting up with ads before and after you stream movies, Paramount Plus will cost you $5.99/month. If you like me, cannot stomach ads at all, the cost of the service is pretty average, $9.99/month. Regardless of which plan you choose, the first month is free (for now).
