History and description

Telia Parken is the largest football stadium in Denmark. It is the home of FC Copenhagen and the standard playing venue of the Danish national team. Parken hosted its first official match on 12 July 1992 in a friendly against Denmark.

Only the old main stand remained part of the new stadium, and because the pitch had turned 90 degrees, it became one of the short ends. Furthermore, 16 bottom rows of seats were removed to make space for a stage to host concerts. An extensive renovation made it fit in with the new stands.

The stadium originally seated 49,794 people but the latest renovation in 2009 increased the capacity to 55,818. The new stadium officially opened on September 1st 1992 and was renamed Parken after the old stadium which was already referred to by most people as Parken. The stadium originally seated 49,794 people but the latest renovation in 2009 increased the capacity to 55,818.

In 1994, Parken hosted the Cup Winners' Cup final between Arsenal and Parma (1-0). Six years later, in 2000, the UEFA Cup final between Galatasaray and Arsenal took place there (0-0).

Between 2007 and 2009, the old stand was demolished and replaced with a new one. This decreased the capacity of the stadium, but increased the number of corporate and VIP facilities.

In 2014, the stadium was renamed Telia Parken after a sponsorship deal with communications company Telia.

Telia Parken has been selected as one of the playing venues for the Euro 2020 Championships, which are played across Europe. It will host three first round group matches and one round of 16 match.

How to get to Telia Parken

Telia Parken is located north of Copenhagen's city center, about 4 kilometers from the main rail station and 2.5 kilometers from the northern parts of the city center, including the Kastellet citadel and the little mermaid statue. Parken is located close to Østerport train station. Trains leave from Copenhagen's main rail station every few minutes for the 6-minute journey to Østerport. From there follow the main artery Østerbrogade north to get to the stadium. The walk will take about 15 minutes.

The stadium is about a 10-minute walk from there.

From City Hall Square, take bus 14 in the direction of Svanemøllen. Get off at stop Trianglen and walk 10 minutes over the Øster Allé north towards the stadium. Line 1A and 3A also stop at Trianglen.

Eat, drink, and sleep near Telia Parken

Telia Parken itself is surrounded by apartment buildings, so it is not really suitable for a stroll. The east side of the stadium, on Østerbrogade, has a variety of shops and restaurants. Obviously, the options here pale in comparison to those in Copenhagen's city centre.

Hotel Rye is located a small walk from the stadium. It is a basic hotel that has decent reviews. First Hotel Østerport is located near Østerport train station, and therefore also at walking distance from the city center. For all hotels near Parken click here.

Are you considering staying in Copenhagen's city centre? There are plenty of hotels around the main rail station, so getting around shouldn't be a problem.

FC Copenhagen Tickets

Tickets for FCK games can be bought online, at the FCK Fanshop at the stadium, or at the ticket desk on game day. Tickets are also available at the ticket office on the day of the match. F.C. Copenhagen don't usually sell out aside from the derby against Brondby.

Tickets for the soccer match cost DKK 135.00 for a seat behind the goal, or DKK 185.00 for a seat at the long side. Tickets are DKK 40.00 more expensive if bought on the day of the match.

The city is very beautiful with a nice stadium to visit.

I walked from the train station, exiting it and turning left. After walking for fifteen minutes, I saw the ground on my left hand side. In Copenhagen, everyone speaks English! This is a place I've never been to before - it's beautiful with a nice stadium nearby.
