History and description

Austin FC's new stadium has been met with mixed reactions from the city's residents, who have been vocal about their displeasure over the lack of public accessibility to certain areas of the stadium. Austin FC and MLS officials have countered these complaints, arguing that the stadium is easily accessible by foot, bike and car. The stadium is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2020. Construction for the stadium began in the middle of 2019, and it is scheduled to be finished by the end of 2020.

The stadium officially opened on 16 June 2021 with a match between the US Women's National Team and Nigeria. Three days later, Austin FC kicked off their first match at the stadium versus San Jose. The cost of $260 million was paid for by the stadium's sponsors and contributors.

In early 2021, the stadium announced a naming rights sponsorship deal with fintech firm Q2. As a result, the stadium was renamed Q2 Stadium.

How to get to Q2 Stadium

The stadium is located in north Austin, about 10 miles north of downtown Austin. The stadium lies just south of The Domain area, a recently developed area serving as Austin's second downtown with lots of (high-end) shops and restaurants. The stadium is a short walk from anywhere in The Domain area that takes at most 30 minutes. There is therefore also plenty of parking near the stadium or anywhere in The Domain area, though for the official parking areas directly near the stadium you need to purchase a parking ticket in advance.

Public transport is a great way to get to the stadium. The Metro Rail 550 service connects downtown Austin with the north of the city, which makes it easy to get to Q2 Stadium.

It is a 30-minute journey from downtown Austin to Kramer. Trains run infrequently outside rush hours, but extra trains run on matchdays including trains at later hours to make sure you will make it back.

It will make travel to and from games much easier for fans.
