Anime as an art form has become increasingly popular within western society. Several aspects such as anime, cosplay, manga, and video games have taken over the world. The visual narrative and compelling storylines have been able to capture the imagination of audiences - especially young adults and teens. With great content, the viewers and readers are able to gratify their perception owing to mind-blowing plot and character development. Though anime began its journey in the 1900s, it?s only in the last 30-40 years that it has been able to penetrate to a wider audience.
History of Anime
.
The oldest animated film, "Imokawa Mukuzo Genkanban?", was released over a century ago in 1917. However, in 2005, an undated 3 seconds film consisting of fifty frames was found in Kyoto. As per the discoverer, Naoki Matsumoto, this film can very well predate the original 1917 release. It's incredible to see that an increasing number of people are growing interested in this form of art - which is an affordable way of storytelling when you compare it with live-action films. Anime as a mainstream content genre was inspired by Disney's style of animation, most notably, "Bambi" and "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs".
Inspired by Disney
After taking inspiration from Disney animations, Japan's cartoonists created their own unique versions of animated stories in the early 1900s. Shimokawa Oten, Kobayashi Shokai's predecessor, pioneered the use of animation in movies with five releases. His work has been highly praised over the years and his contribution to the world of anime is significant. He has created over 15 movies as an animator.
The reason why I decided to write an article about the history of Anime is because it is a billion dollar industry today. So, as an anime lover or someone just interested in learning more about it, it's important to know its heritage. And now that you have some understanding of that, let's move on to our main topic - r/AnimeSuggest.
My recent experience on r/AnimeSuggest
The second post was a discussion on the meaning of life and how to find meaning in it.
Quite recently, I voted on two posts on this subreddit. First, was a suggestion where a user was asking for a Rom-Com where you don't have to wait until the last episode, 2 seasons, or 2 movies, for a single kiss. The requirement was clearly stated and thus he was able to generate over 200 responses from fellow anime heads. Second, I voted on a discussion on the meaning of life and how to find meaning in it.
I saw that someone had posted a query for Rich guy/poor girl, old-ish romcom. 370 people voted on it and 50 people gave suggestions. That was really cool to see, because it shows that so many people care about what you do and think you'll enjoy the content.

With 192,000 subscribers to the Anime subreddit on Reddit, it is clear that this community requires more than a few members to keep it running smoothly. Why should you follow r/AnimeSuggest?
The Reddit community for anime suggestions, reviews, and character development is highly interactive, with an average of 20-30 responses per question. The best part is that everybody is cooperative and you don't have to think twice before posting a query. Most of the content on this platform revolves around anime suggestions, reviews, and character development.
Community Engagement
AnimeSuggest has a high engagement rate; for every post I browsed today, over 50 responses were received. This reassures me that the members of this subreddit are reliable and knowledgeable about anime. I myself posted a question regarding which anime I should watch next, and based on my input, many people recommended Death Note. After completing the series, my faith in this subreddit has grown even more.
Browsing & Navigation
Since the majority of content on this platform is text-based, you will not experience any loading issues when browsing and navigating across various sections. You can stay up-to-date with the community even when you have a stable internet connection. There are a few ads in the feed and on the sidebar, but those don't impair your browsing experience. They are well-placed to maintain the overall user experience in mind.
Reddit Gold
Though the amount of upvotes on each post are not as high, the comments and interactions are too good for a community this size. Even in regard to Reddit Gold, I saw more than 15-20 golds across the popular posts in the past 6 months. A fascinating aspect of this subreddit is that you will find more gold being awarded in the comment section than to the actual post itself. And that's understandable given it is user comments that provide helpful content.
Filter by flair
I am not unhappy with this particular section. There are four main options - Meta, What to Watch?, What?s this From? (unsolved)?, and Series Specific Question. These are quality filter options given that you can get your queries solved within a short period if you use the right flair. Most of the time, it happens that I cannot recollect a certain scene from a certain anime, and so I just use the image and add Meta filter and the fellow community members are at the rescue.

An anime for an 80-year-old man? This is a question that has recently come up on social media and many people have responded with either "no" or "I don't know." There are exceptions to the rule, but generally speaking, anime is not the best choice for someone in this age group. A lot of things have changed since 80 years ago; the industry has evolved significantly, and there are now many more effective and enjoyable ways to spend their time.
I have been in a coma for 5 years, so I missed out on a lot of great anime.
