reddit.com/r/gaming/
The gaming industry has come a long way since its humble beginnings. Ten years ago, gaming was only enjoyed by a select few, but now it has become mainstream and is enjoyed by everyone. The industry generates over $160 billion annually, and this number is only going to continue to increase.
Over the years, there have been many changes in the hardware and graphics of video games. With faster processors and more advanced hardware, today's gaming looks far more realistic than ever before. Reddit has a dedicated subreddit called r/Gaming for people to discuss all things related to gaming.
Today we will be reviewing one of the most popular subreddits called r/Videos.
My recent experience on r/Gaming
The most recent post I saw on r/Gaming was really moving. It featured an old man exercising his playful demons using a V/R headset. What's lovely about this post was the caption. The user u/randybigbones shared ?I used to play games in the basement of his house, now he plays games in my basement?. This post was such a breath of fresh air in a time where older generations are treating the youth like an outcast because of the dependence on technology. The post within 12 hours of its upload raked in an impressive 66,000 upvotes.
About r/Gaming - Community & Members
With over 26 million subscribers, r/Gaming is definitely one of the biggest subreddits on the platform. I remember starting to follow this page when it was at 1 million. I can't believe how far it has come since it began its journey back on September 17, 2007. The community is expanding and not that it's bad, but over a period of time, the signal to noise ratio becomes hard to manage.
How to access r/Gaming?
If you are already a Reddit user, you can simply type "r/Gaming" into your search bar and follow the subreddit. However, if you are new to the platform, you will need to create an account and confirm your email address. Once you do so, you will be able to follow subreddits, comment on posts, and even post anything on any of the subreddits.
Moderators of r/Gaming
Reddit's gaming community is one of the largest on the site, and it can easily start its own independent platform. Approximately 22 million people are subscribed to r/Gaming, which is a pretty large number. So managing the community and keeping it clean can't be an individual's responsibility. There are a lot of moderators to keep things running smoothly on these pages, so that's usually taken care of.
In r/Gaming's case, I found 10 main moderators at the time of writing this review. These are Dacvak, synbios16, gamingmoderator, mookler, Rlight, Analtoast, delicious_cheese, MisterWoodhouse, Redbiertje, and Umdlye.
Why should you follow r/Gaming?
Due to the sheer volume of content posted each day on this subreddit, posts cannot go through an approval process. It is a Super Active Page and the best content on any given day is able to garner 30,000-80,000 upvotes within 24 hours. For instance, the top five posts today have a cumulative 300,000 upvotes.
Community Engagement
This subreddit is a livewire. The problem with it is that you can't judge it on the basis of comments. Thus, if we were to see it on the basis of upvotes, I feel that it gets over 1+ million upvotes every day. As far as the interaction goes, there are an average of 200-250 comments on each post. In some of the most popular posts, the number even surpasses 1k comments.
Navigation & Playback
Reddit is one of my favorite websites because of how well it is designed.
Since r/Gaming is a massive gaming subreddit, you will find images, videos, and even GIFs. Overall, navigating around the menus is seamless. Honestly, I don't have any trouble with browsing and navigation on any of Reddit's pages. Yes, there are times when too many people from the subreddit are online at once and that creates an overload which takes about 5 seconds to get back on track. But overall, watching videos, using sorting functions, commenting, and interacting with users is spotless. Reddit is one of my favorite websites because of how well it is designed.
Reddit Gold
Typically, the most popular posts receive between 3 and 5 golds. However, it's only the top few posts that earn the most gold. Posts in positions 5th and below barely get any silver even though they have a lot of upvotes. Nonetheless, this community is difficult to please and you need to bring your best game if you want to receive gold from a fellow member.
Filter by flair
While r/SciFi has an in-depth "Filter by Flair" categorization, r/Gaming does not have one. This means that posts are visible in random order, without any tags. This can be slightly disappointing, as other subreddits are using this feature to elevate the user experience.
Important rules you must know before joining r/Gaming?
Many Reddit enthusiasts tend to jump into communities without reading the rules first. This often results in them getting banned from the page forever. So, if you want to stay on this subreddit and avoid any punishment, be sure to heed these gaming rule tags.
,please
Please do not submit memes or images that are not directly related to gaming. This includes generic meme templates and images that do not feature any gaming content.
If you feel like you must post a direct reply to someone in order to show that you are on their side, then this is a bandwagon behavior. It's not only rude, but it'll just make the other person feel ignored.

Design
The background banner on this subreddit is really clean and well designed with different icons related to gaming. You'll find clean vectors of Ludo, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PlayStation, and PC among a few others. I just love how these icons have been designed to fit right in and give this subred a distinctive feel as most of the competitive subreddits have a flat cover image.

As for the layout and design of this page, you'll find a "Join" button right beside r/Gaming. Under that, you'll find three options - Posts, Community Rules, and Other communities. Below that, you have the content bar, where you can create a post - add pictures or attachment. Under the posting section, you have three sorting options - Hot, New, Top. The last section is the comment section, where you can leave a comment on your friends' posts.
