Some people believe that Netflix's role in the downfall of Blockbuster is responsible for changing the way people watch movies. They have argued that, before Netflix came along, most people rented movies from Blockbuster. However, after Netflix took over the rental market, more and more people started buying DVDs and watching them on their own instead of going to the movie theater. This lead to the bankruptcy of Blockbuster.
Netflix has quickly become known as one of the most influential and important online institutions in history. If you were to make a list of the sites that have had the greatest impact on modern society, what would you say? Facebook? Twitter? Google? Amazon? Yes, surely, all of those sites make the shortlist, but Netflix would also have to be included in order for that list to have credibility.
Netflix has been a popular streaming service for many years now, and its influence has even infiltrated the vernacular we use to talk about TV and movies. Prior to Netflix, there was no such thing as a binge-worthy show. Then, of course, there is a sly way to discuss a potential hookup when you ask someone if they want to come over to Netflix and chill. That is how synonymous with watching TV and movies Netflix has become - it's grown to the point of being used as shorthand for watching shows.
Netflix has always had a huge library of shows and movies available, and for only $10 a month, subscribers can watch thousands of hours of content. There is so much content on Netflix that it can be hard to figure out what to watch.
How many times have you gone through this process? You sit down, turn on Netflix, and try to figure out what you want to watch? So, you scroll, and you scroll, and you click, and you click. You weigh out a few options, maybe watch a few trailers, and you keep on scrolling. Before you know it, an hour or more has passed. And you still have yet to settle on what you want to watch. You also haven't even skimmed the surface of everything that Netflix has to offer. The hard truth is thatyou just spent the same amount of time as it would have taken to watch a movie just trying to find the right movie to watch!
This testament to the vastness and variety of Netflix is both incredibly impressive and frustrating, as I have often wished for a simpler way to navigate its selection. Despite the countless recommendations from friends, I always find myself forgetting everything within minutes of sitting down. It's an odd phenomenon, but it's definitely true.
So, what are we to do in these moments? Well, I have found that turning to r/Netflixbestof (the best of Netflix) can be helpful in settling on what to watch. Every single time, it has provided me with the perfect option.
Someone asked what the best of Netflix is, and the answer is a subreddit dedicated to discussing the best movies and shows on Netflix. This community of fellow Netflix lovers can share their favorite binges of the moment and talk about some of the more popular titles. It's a great way to discover new shows or movies you may have missed, as well as connect with others who share your love for Netflix.
History
Netflix Best of was created shortly after the first r/Netflix subreddit went live. The r/Netflixbestof subreddit was founded on April 12, 2010, and it has amassed a very large community of users in the last decade. Today, Netflix Best Of is comprised of 1.8 million members, with between a few hundred and a few thousand people actively online at any given time.
Content
As I mentioned before, if you're looking for the best of Netflix, Netflix Best is the place to go. People here post about their favorite shows, favorite movies, and all sorts of other topics related to what's currently on Netflix. Basically, this subreddit is a great place to discuss everything related to what's on Netflix.
You can post with a question, a recommendation, a review, a request, or a controversial opinion (about a show or movie on Netflix) on Reddit. OR you can partake in the thrilling discussions that take place in the comments sections (anyone who is even slightly familiar with Reddit will know well how entertaining these can be, no matter what subreddit you happen to be on). You can also, of course, upvote or downvote posts based on their quality, award people with gold and other digital accolades (should you be a premium member of Reddit) to incentivize people in r/Netflixbestof to raise the bar when it comes to the quality of their posts.
Netflix Best Of is a fun and civil community of Netflix lovers. One of my favorite things to do here is read people's unpopular opinion posts. Some of these posts, such as "Ozark is so boring!" are just fun for me to see how seriously people take these discussions. There is so much passion that people harbor for certain shows and movies here, which makes for a rarely dull moment.
Suggestions that I have for r/Netflixbestof
I have found that the moderators of this subreddit are not doing enough to engage the community. Many subreddits have moderators that host weekly polls and pinned official discussions, maybe AMAs and other fun community activities, but Netflix Best Of does not seem to have much in the way of this kind of engagement. This is a baffling omission to me, especially since a Best Of subreddit seems to naturally lend itself to polls and fun little games like Survivor (where people vote on which parts of a series to eliminate week after week).
I think it would be a great idea for r/Netflixbestof to set up a flair system so that users can more easily identify different types of posts. Furthermore, I think it would be helpful if the rules of the subreddit were listed somewhere so that users know what is expected of them before posting. However, I am not really too strict about rules, so I guess this could be left up to the moderators to decide.
Netflix Best Of is not customized at all. In fact, the icon for the subreddit uses the default Reddit community icon. There are many subreddits out there that put time and effort into how they present themselves, adding subtle little quirks that really make for a fun experience overall. The moderators of Netflix Best Of seem to be doing the bare minimum.
But, hey, the community self-moderates to a great degree, and this means that the subreddit is a very useful resource for finding new shows and movies as well as discussing Netflix content and requesting recommendations based on descriptions of what you are looking for.
Conclusion
At the end of the day, if you're not a Reddit snob, r/Netflixbestof is one of the best resources for easily and quickly finding your new favorite show or movie on Netflix. It's also a great place to partake in fascinating debates and discussions about the shows and movies you know and love. Or feel free to help a fellow member out with a recommendation. Whatever the case may be, you'll be able to make the most of Netflix with r/Netflixbestof.
