In the past decade, streaming has become a massive industry. From movie streaming services to game streaming, there are many options for consumers. When you use the word streaming, you are generally referring to the gaming community and streaming live games, commentary, and other forms of content that users can watch in real-time. With game streaming, users don't have to purchase physical games and can jump into the action without having to install updates or purchases.
Interestingly, there has been a rise in game streaming recently. This trend is likely due to the ever-growing popularity of Twitch and other live-streaming platforms. Streaming requires dedication and a lot of skill - both mental and technical. In order to be successful as a streamer, you need to have an excellent internet connection that won't drop frequently and quality recording equipment. Unfortunately, even though there are more people watching streamers than those actually streaming, this doesn't mean that it's easier or less challenging. On the contrary; streaming requires a great deal of effort, both from the individual streaming and from the viewers tuning in.
Why do people resort to streaming?
Gaming consoles start at $300, whereas gaming PCs cost over $1,000. However, streaming services allow you to play games with the same quality experience as if you were using a gaming console, thanks to their server rack in the country. These services typically charge a monthly fee, and you only need a PC or mobile device to get started.
Now that we know a little about streaming in general, let's move on to the more substantive part- r/streaming. One of the most popular streaming communities on the internet.
My recent experience on r/streaming
I recently upvoted a post by a fellow Redditor Andrufb who shared about his insecurity regarding the viewership decline. He explained that, since the quarantine is ending in Spain, his numbers are no longer the same. The drop-in numbers have resulted in him losing his confidence. He is self-doubting and now feels that he will never be able to reach the partnership requirements i.e. 50 viewers. He then asked questions and suggestions from fellow Redditors.
I believe that this post is valuable to newcomers because it illustrates the challenges and struggles that they will face when starting out as a content creator. When I saw it, I could relate because even after years of streaming, I still haven't reached my full potential. This post has a message for anyone who wants to make a career out of streaming - don't give up! It may take some time and effort, but with patience and dedication, you can achieve great things.
About r/streaming - Community & Members
The community has averaged 18,500 members out of which 60-100 members are online at any given time. This subreddit has tanked recently and for a community to exist for over a decade and only muster 18,000 to 20,000 members looks bad. However, most of the members on this platform have joined it in the past 2-3 years. So, the sub was showing an upward trajectory until the start of 2020. However, since the turn of the year, this sub has only attracted 400 new members.
How to access r/streaming?
If you are not a Reddit user, you will need to create an account and confirm your email address in order to join the Streaming subreddit. Once you have done so, you can follow subreddits, comment on posts, and even post anything on any of the subreddits.
Moderators of r/streaming
Streaming forum R/streaming is a cesspool of spam and malware. Moderators are necessary to clean it up.
In my opinion, they are all essential for keeping this platform running smoothly.
I found four mods on r/streaming- Misio?, TonightsWhiteKnight?, BRKSwifty?, and cuckbutt. These mods ensure that every content on this platform meets the rules and guidelines set by the community. In my opinion, they are all essential for keeping this platform running smoothly.
Why should you follow r/streaming?
So, you're coming to the right place! This page has a variety of content for you. You'll find posts about services, people seeking support, discussions, queries, news, information, and hacks related to streaming. There's also a Wiki section where you can explore old posts. And if that's not enough, you can join the Discord server and engage with the community in an exclusive way.
Community Engagement
Despite being a small community of fewer than 20,000 members, the engagement rate is not good. There's no doubt that the content is cool, but many people seem to interact with the posts less than desired. For instance, the recent experience that I shared above only received 3 upvotes. On average, no post receives 10 upvotes on any given day. The standard upvotes are between 1-3 which is quite abysmal. And that's mainly because a lot of streamers are just trying to convince their fellow members to watch their streams rather than creating quality content that can engage others on its own.
Playback
The videos aren't posted on this platform. Every streamer just shares the text or an image and provides a link to the stream. This makes the sub unfulfilled with heavy media files that could tank the server. The playback via the links is smooth and browsing/navigation on the sub itself is not much of a problem either. You get all your standard Reddit features to find the content you need.
Reddit Gold
Yet again, I didn't expect anything from r/streaming in regard to gold. Since the engagement itself is not up to the mark, there's no way people are going to award golds. Most self-promoting subreddits face this issue regularly. As a streamer looking to gather clout from this platform, I'd just recommend not having too many expectations.
Filter by flair
Another downside to the subreddit is that there is no option to filter by flair. With such a high frequency of posts, it would be helpful for users to be able to group posts by topic using flairs. However, r/streaming lacks this feature in the sidebar, making it difficult for readers to browse through a wide variety of content.
Important rules you must know before joining r/streaming?
Before streaming, be sure to know the rules! If you don't follow them, your stream might get removed or banned from this page for life.

Design
The most positive aspect of this subreddit is that it has an identifiable icon and a black and white cover image. This way, the mods seem to care about the platform. There are three options in the header - Posts?, Wiki?, and Discord?. Under that you have the ?Create Post? section followed by the feed. Towards the right, you have ?Community Information? followed by ?Rules & Guidelines?.

Conclusion
Although r/streaming is an excellent community for streaming enthusiasts, it's important to read the top posts before you start your streaming journey. For example, I myself love to watch YouTube creator Emilia Gardner who provides blogging information via YouTube Live. She might only have a few hundred subscribers, but her content is raw and she takes real effort to hear what her viewers have to say. This is what resonates with me the most about her work.
