I think that Reddit might just be the most generally useful website in existence. That is all that I am going to say on the matter. I believe it is time for everyone to pack up and head home because Reddit has won the internet.
I guess it's true that Reddit is loaded with information, riveting discussion, and an interesting social media dynamic. It can be helpful to skim through the slush of the entire internet and only bring forth the best of the best in terms of content. Sure, Reddit may have developed a bit of a bad reputation over the years as a cesspool of angsty edge lords and borderline incels, but there is no denying the fact that, at least in theory, Reddit is an incredible idea.
Reddit is a great resource for finding the latest news, discussions, and content related to any specialized interest. There is no better site than Reddit when it comes to finding content related to any niche interest. Regardless of how bizarre or esoteric your fandom may be, Reddit has a subreddit for it. Thanks to the byzantine matrix of millions of different subreddits, there is a home for everyone here on Reddit. Despite the size of the communities, small communities can thrive with highly active users.
So, if your interests lie outside of the traditional music genres, don't worry! There are many subreddits devoted to just about anything you could imagine. For example, if you're interested in making your own hip hop music, you can find all the resources you need on r/makinghiphop. Or if you're more of a mainstream person and love analyzing rap lyrics, then check out r/hiphopheads - it's guaranteed to be packed with knowledgeable fans. In short, Reddit is a very customizable platform - what kind of content do you want to see?
One could make the argument that Reddit is the most democratic website on the web. Its simple voting system, in fact, is the crux of why Reddit is so effective at bring forth the cream of the crop when it comes to what's available on the internet. If somebody posts something that is truly incredible, well, that post (and that user) is incentivized through upvotes and, in some cases, special awards (which can be purchased to give out to fellow Redditors).
On the one hand, if someone posts something that is true, accurate, helpful, or just plain entertaining, that post (and user) will get a lot of upvotes. In extreme cases, the post can be made stickied, and the user can be granted privileges such as early access to content. This means you?ll only see the most popular content on Reddit. It's a brilliant system, and it makes browsing the internet so much more pleasant.
On the note of more generalized subreddits that one can use to their advantage, r/Television is an extremely active and high-quality community for TV lovers everywhere. With just over 16 million members (and thousands online at any given time), r/Television is a constantly updated digital treasure trove of the latest TV news, discussions, speculation, and reviews. If one is in the market for a go-to TV news website, perhaps they should look no further than r/Television, as it serves as a sort of aggregator of all the best TV news content there is to be found online.
History
Reddit started as a few friends from college who impressed programmer Paul Graham and got invited to his incubator, Y Combinator.
Their first idea, though, paled in comparison to Reddit. So they brainstormed some more and Graham pitched an idea to Huffman and Ohanian for what he called ?the front page of the internet.? With a very generous initial round of fundraising (provided by Y Combinator), Huffman and Ohanian got to work on what would one day be the online behemoth known as Reddit. The official site launch took place in June of 2005.
After a bit of conceptual expansion and the addition of some new key players to the Reddit team, Huffman and Ohanian sold the site to Conde Nast Media Group for a reported sum of money between $10 million and $20 million on October 26th, 2016. Reddit wouldn't become truly profitable until Conde Nast introduced ad space in 2009. From there, Reddit would grow to become one of the most profitable players in the dot-com market. Today, the site is estimated to be valued at over 1.8 billion dollars
Design
I have to admit, when I first started using the site (some 10 or more years ago), the design was a little tricky for me to get used to. I think that it may be fair to say that Reddit has not always had the most intuitive interface of any site on the web. This is partially due to my opinion, which is that Reddit, conceptually speaking, was so new and unique when it was founded. The notion of subreddits was still foreign to me. However, I stuck out with it, and nowadays I find Reddit one of the most logically designed online communities.
The three main ways to browse Reddit are by looking at posts in a large card format, viewing posts in classic mode, or seeing them in compact mode. It is important to become familiar with these modes because they are the most useful ways of browsing the site.
Reddit offers users a variety of sorting features to help them focus on the content that is most important to them. This includes options to have content appear in descending order by the "best" posts, hot posts, new, top, and riding. Once you understand how to make the most of these features, Reddit opens up and becomes much more powerful. Now you know how to use one of the most powerful websites on the internet effectively! So go ahead and explore all of Reddit's fascinating communities.
Content
The r/Television community is a great resource for TV news, discussions, and reviews. However, the posts on the subreddit will depend on what its users are currently interested in. So whatever fellow TV fans are thinking about at a given time will be what you find on r/Television. Additionally, there is an archive of past posts to peruse at your leisure if the current conversations don't interest you.
The majority of the posts on this subreddit are related to TV news, announcements, reviews, awards shows, castings, cancellations and debates. Another option is if you aren't feeling the focus of this subreddit, to simply post about what is on your mind and letting the conversation unravel from there!
Desktop and Mobile Experience
I find that the best way for me to enjoy Reddit is by using the app on my phone. After all, the app has a well-designed mobile interface which is likely due to the fact that users can voice their concerns with it in its own specific subreddit. If you don't like the official app, there are several alternative apps available that allow you to browse Reddit. I would recommend trying Beam, Glance, Alien Blue, or Nano for Reddit if you want something different.
However, it may take some getting used to, but once you get past that initial (and short-lived) learning curve, you will be blessed with a never-ending social media feed that is free of all of the annoying contrivances of people's egos getting in the way of content.
Pricing and Plans
One of Reddit's best features is that it is free to use. However, if you want an enhanced experience, premium membership can be purchased for only $5.99/month. They also provide an ad-free experience as well as 700 coins each month to award other users.
