This past decade, we've seen the rise of amazing technology that offers tremendous mobility in Videography. With this improved technology, creators are able to explore new ways of shooting awesome videos. Today's cameras are unimaginably portable, tough, and have excellent attention to detail.
In the past few decades, due to the overall trend of improvement, we can see the incorporation of amazing special effects, sound quality, and end-product quality. Today, with the flexibility to capture even average footage looking amazing in post-production, videographers generally despise this idea as they want to get the best raw footage without having to edit it extensively.
Today, we are reviewing one of the lesser-known subreddits, which is amazing for all the budding and experienced videographers out there. I am talking about r/Videography.

My recent experience on r/Videography

I recently upvoted a question on r/Videography that was from a user who is looking for recommendations on the best hybrid video/stills camera. He shared that he had a GH4 and was unhappy with its low light performance and lackluster stills. He also said that he wasn't able to get good wide-angle coverage with it.
He specifies that he shoots landscape photography and narrative video, and doesn't have an inventory or lens loyalty so he is free for any suggestion in the range of $2000. Within a few hours of this post, he received many recommendations - Panasonic S1, APS-C: XT3, Panasonic G9, Lumix G9, and Sony a6500.
This demonstrates that even on posts with low interaction, you will find someone who is capable of answering your questions and providing you amazing recommendations.

About r/Videography - Community & Members

This subreddit is for people who want to be videographers of all kinds. Whether you're a wedding photographer, event videographer, music video editor, live performer, TV producer, live streaming journalist, or sports commentator, there's a place here for you. With 109000 subscribers and 300-500 active users at any given time, this subreddit is bustling with activity. It was created on April 11th, 2009, so it's been around for quite some time and has developed into an amazing community full of talented videographers.

How to access r/Videography?

If you're not a Reddit user, you need to create an account and confirm your email address before you can join this subreddit. Once you do so, you'll be able to follow subreddits, comment on posts, and even post anything on any of the subreddits.

Moderators of r/Videography

There are hundreds of posts each day on r/Videography, with people asking questions, providing recommendations, reviewing products, and sharing their personal experience. However, there are a few fringe elements that don't want to maintain the decorum and instead want to create a nuisance. That's why there are nearly a dozen mods on r/Videography who try to keep things organized and respectful.
At present, there are ten moderators on r/Videography.

Why should you follow r/Videography?

You'll find a variety of content on this subreddit, from technical question to general user guides. You'll find useful content from videographers from various sub-niches. This is a diverse community, and as such, videographers from various sub-disciplines contribute a lot to make this an amazing all-inclusive platform.

Community Engagement

Given that the subreddit Videography is oriented around videos and media, it has over 100,000 subscribers. It is a respectable community with cooperative members looking to help and provide valuable suggestions. Sure, it doesn't have a staggering engagement rate, but as far as you are getting 4-5 people to engage with your post and get feedback, I feel it is all worth it. On average, a regular post on this subreddit receives 10-15 upvotes and the best post of the day racks up between 30-70 upvotes. As for comments, 5-12 is the average number I saw on today's posts.

Browsing & Navigation

Small communities have the advantage of having more in-depth content due to their smaller audience. For example, subs with millions of followers and video content are impossible to browse on an internet connection. Even if you do, you will lose all your data within an hour. However, r/videography is a small community and does have a considerable amount of video content. Nevertheless, I checked the page on WiFi as well as a data connection and after 45 minutes of browsing I only spent 55 MB on data.

Free Asset Repository

The amazing thing about this subreddit is that it provides videographers with a free asset repository. So if you're new to Videography or are looking for some packs, plugins, and inspiration, this is the place where you'll find it. In the sidebar, you have a section where you can download free content - Music, Sound Effects, Footage, and even After Effects Templates. How cool is that? Just click on the button below, and you'll be redirected to the repository post.

Reddit Gold

Many members of r/Videography enjoy giving and receiving gold awards for great content. This is especially noticeable when looking at the top posts of the year, as there are often several posts and comments that receive this honor. It's a nice trend to see among a small community, and it shows that everyone is willing to help each other out.
