Finding good horror movies and series on popular streaming websites can be a daunting task. Most of the time, horror media is bundled together into one genre. However, real horror fans know that this is not fair. In the horror genre, there are multiple sub-genres that need to be considered when choosing a show. That's where Shudder comes in. Shudder is a streaming website specifically made for horror lovers. It has a wide array of different horror genres, including independent films and series that aren't typically found on other streaming platforms. This makes it an excellent resource for finding quality content.
Shudder is a streaming site created for horror enthusiasts. It's like Netflix, but with a lot more blood. Thankfully for viewers, Shudder's website is surprisingly easy to use!
In 2016, AMC Network fully launched their streaming website. The site claims to provide content for all horror fans, casual fans and super-fans alike. It has been growing rapidly and is loved by all who enjoy horror movies.

Website Design

Shudder's website design gives the viewer a sense of purpose. In fact, their website design is reminiscent of another streaming site, Netflix. There are several similarities between the two websites, including layout and design features.
The logo for Shudder is in the same spot as Netflix's N, their menu is set up similarly, and their library is displayed in the same way. Another similarity is that their boxes are located in almost the same spot.
The website, Shudder, looks like a rip-off of another website, but it's actually very fitting. I would call it the Netflix of Horror. The site operates in the same manner and puts up older content, along with providing its own original content too.
This element of the site is creepy and exciting at the same time. The website's horror-themed navigation system is my favorite part. When you hover over the words on the menu, they apparently squirm due to staticlike tv interference. There are also various other Easter eggs around the website, including social media links. Additionally, a small caption reads "Stalk Us." This element of the website is creepy and exciting at the same time.

There are a fair number of films and series on Shudder. 500 titles in total are available.
Some of the films on the Shudder site are very exclusive. There is a long list of items that are exclusive to their sites like Todd and the Book of Pure Evil, Channel Zero: Candle Cove, and Haunt. The site produces its own original content called Shudder Originals. All of the shows like Creepshow, Monster Vision, and The Wrath are only viewable on Shudder.
Shudder is a website where curators break down genre into sub-genres, with many more fun categories than what you would find on most other websites. Curators choose celebrities to guest-curate each category, so you can always expect a unique and entertaining experience.
Another part of the content you will receive when you sign up for the website is a live television feed of horror. It is great if you feel like watching something random, but it can be a little spooky.
The Shudder blog is frequently updated with new information. It also offers exclusive behind-the-scenes information that keeps viewers informed.

Desktop & Mobile Accessibility

Desktop accessibility is great. For those of you who are not familiar with Shudder, it is a streaming service that feels almost exactly like Netflix. The videos play great and the sound quality is very good.
The mobile browser is a replica of the desktop browser. It behaves in the same way. There are no apparent problems with it. However, it is difficult to find a button to download the app, so instead, I just searched for it in the app store.
The app is very visually stunning. It gets more flavor than the website. When you open the app, as it loads the blank screen has an old wall that looks like the wallpaper is peeling. The app is situated in a different way than the website, but that's a good thing.
I selected My List and the category I wanted to view appeared on the right. The number of items in that category is listed in green underneath the list. You can tell by how well they optimized the benefit of having an app that they really put a lot of thought into it. The top right is where you can find your settings, including your search bar. The bottom menu is visually appealing with a simple layout that's easy to understand. From left to right, the menu reads Featured, Shudder TV, Collections, and Browse. Each category has its own small icon that reflects its name- Featured has an image of a TV with a blue light behind it, Shudder TV has an image of a horror movie poster with blood dropping from it, Collections has images of items inside a box, and Browse has images for searching for content on YouTube or other websites. The first horizontal list in view is My List- this lists all the content you've added to your app; the number of items in each category is listed in green beneath the list. I selected My List and found my desired content appearing on the right side under a new heading called "Recently Added." There are three vertical lists here: Subscriptions (which shows you all your subscribed channels), Channels (which shows you all your current channels), and Videos (which shows you all your current videos). Having access to these lists makes it easy to find what you're looking for without having to go through individual videos one by one.

There are many positive things about using Shudder. It is a very useful streaming service, especially for horror fans. The layout is beautiful and streamlined. It is an easy to use site and application. The overall price of the service is great! $4.99 per month if you buy annually is incredible!
If you're feeling like watching some horror movies, the site has a ton of them to choose from. You can check out Shudder TV or access other content like a Ghoul Log - which is decorated for Halloween and has spooky noises bundled with it.
The horror-themed navigation buttons are a great addition. They're cleverly titled "Stalk Us." The top menu has static-like letters when you hover on it, just like on a TV. The logo is an interesting one - it's the Shudder text with all caps in a text that looks similar to the broken mirror glass. Some of the text also turns blood red when you hover over it.
The blog is a great feature. Being able to keep up with all of the original content is great. The behind the scenes look at shows you like is also cool.
The title list can be seen as either a positive or negative because it has some obscure titles on it. However, for people who prefer mainstream horror, this is not a good thing. There are some bigger horror titles on the site, but they are predominately known movies. On the other hand, if you are a huge horror fan and have seen it all, the obscure titles are positive.
The very curated collections are amazing. The creators handpick the titles that go into them. Guests of the website also have a special spot on the site where they can share lists of their favorite horror films and series with viewers. Filmmakers, actors, and horror icons alike create lists of their favorite horror films and series to share with viewers on the website.

Overall, I believe Shudder is a great site with a lot of great features. However, there are a few negative aspects to it. First, their library is not particularly large compared to other streaming sites. Second, they have not added many mainstream titles which can be limiting for some viewers.
Continuing on the point of the library, there are a lot of obscure and unheard-of titles. This can be good or bad. In the case of some, it is a bummer not to see more memorable titles. However, categorization makes it very easy to find something to watch.
I found it frustrating that there is no autoplay feature on the series. This is not a huge inconvenience, but I'm not sure why they didn't include this in the design.
Although the search function is useful, it does not work well for many large streaming sites. Unless the title has specific keywords in it, Shudder will not find it.

Improvements Needed

There are currently only a few select films that can be found on the service. A big improvement for Shudder is to make it easier to find keywords instead of just titles. Another great improvement would be adding more films to the library. Right now, there are only a few select films available on the service.

If you're a horror lover, you should definitely subscribe to Shudder. The website and app design is perfect, and the content is always exciting. New material is added regularly, so there's never a dull moment.
This website has many advantages that outweigh any disadvantages. There are few areas where it could be improved, and even then the changes would be minimal. Some of my favorite features include guest collections, sub-genres, and Ghoul-Log.
