History and description

The stadium, named after Alberto Picco, was originally built in 1919 as the home of Spezia Calcio. The stadium wasn't completed in time for the club's first season in the Italian League, so they played their first few games at other venues. On December 7, 1919, the stadium officially opened with a league match between Spezia and SC Genova (8-0). The stadium consisted of wooden stands in English style, and was named after Alberto Picco, a former player that had died in the First World War.

The stands have been renovated on numerous occasions since then, most recently in 2017.

Few changes have been made since the stadium underwent some refurbishments in 2006 when the club promoted to Serie B. Safety measures have furthermore reduced capacity to its current 10,000.
