The stadium originally held 4,000 people, but it was later expanded to over 25,000. In recent decades, the stadium has undergone various redevelopments which have led to its capacity dropping back to just 7500 seats.

The refurbishment was completed in the spring of 2017. In 2016, following SPAL's promotion to Serie B, Stadio Paolo Mazza underwent a refurbishment that added 1,000 seats to its capacity. The refurbishment was completed in the spring of 2017.

The large refurbishment of the stadium that included construction of new stands behind the goals increased capacity to over 16,000 seats.

How to get to Stadio Paolo Mazza

The Stadio Paolo Mazza is located right in the heart of Ferrara, just minutes away from Ferrara's railway station and the city's historical center. All three stations are within walking distance of the city centre. Trains connect Ferrara with Bologna, Venice, and Padova frequently. The journey from Ferrara takes about half an hour, that from Venice an hour-and-a-half, and that from Padova an hour. All three stations are within walking distance of the city center.
