History and description

Between 1990 and 1995, the stadium underwent a radical transformation into its current form. It was redesigned by the architect Witold Rybczynski and now has a rectangular shape with a capacity of over 43,000 spectators. The Stadion Miejski im. Henryka Reymana was built in 1953 on a plot of land next to Wis?a?s old stadium. The stadium was then still oval-shaped and included an athletics track. Between 1990 and 1995, the stadium underwent a radical transformation into its current form. It was redesigned by the architect Witold Rybczynski and has a capacity of over 43,000 spectators, making it one of the largest stadiums in Poland. Stadion Miejski set a record attendance of 45,000 for a Wis?a game in 1976 when they played Celtic in the UEFA Cup.

In 1985, Wis?a presented a redevelopment plan for the stadium that would entail the demolition of the main stand. However, once demolished, the club lacked the funds to continue with the works and for ten years the stadium remained without main stand.

The main stand was finally built in 1996. In the following years, renovations were made to the east stand, the running track was removed, and more temporary stands were installed.

The completed south stand was officially opened in 2007 and was not only able to accommodate the expected 20,000 spectators, but also hosted another 9,000 people due to its multi-purpose facilities. In 2004 Wis?a presented plans for a complete redevelopment of the stadium. One year later construction of a new south stand started. The completed south stand was officially opened in 2007 and was able to accommodate the expected 20,000 spectators as well as host another 9,000 people due to its multi-purpose facilities.

However, when Poland was awarded the Euro 2012 tournament and Kraków was chosen as a reserve playing venue, plans were upgraded to accommodate a capacity of over 30,000 in order to comply with UEFA requirements.

The project was very expensive and took a long time to complete.

The stadium was originally called "Wis?y Stadium." It got officially renamed "Miejski Stadium" in 2008, in honor of a player and captain of the club between 1910 and 1933.

How to get to Stadion Miejski

The stadium is located just west of the historic city centre. The walk from the main Rynek market square will take about 20 minutes, from the outer city walls it only takes 10 minutes. The walk from the main railway station to Cichy K?cik will take approximately half an hour. Alternately, one can take tram 20 from the station's stop Teatr S?owackiego, just south of the center, and then head in the direction of Cichy K?cik. After about thirteen minutes, get off at stop Reymana. The tram leaves about every twenty minutes.

From the airport, take bus 208. It will pass reasonably close to the stadium. Get off at stop Kawiory and walk one block south. The ride takes about 30 minutes.

Address: l. Reymonta 22, 30-059 Kraków

Wisla Krakow Tickets

Tickets for Wisconsin games can be bought online or in person at the Fan Corner at the stadium. Polish citizens need a Fan Card to be able to purchase tickets, which can be obtained at the Fan Corner in just a few minutes. Foreigners should be able to purchase a ticket with just an identification.

Tickets can be bought on the day of the match, though a Fan Card requirement applies.

I had to queue for over 80 minutes to get to a ticket booth to be told that I need a fan card (ID) to be allowed to buy a ticket. Hen I was told that the office where you can get this fan card had already been closed. So I couldn't buy a ticket and wasted all afternoon. Gutted!

The walk from the city centre takes only about 20 minutes. Right across the park is another stadium (of local rivals Cracovia), which is about 10 minute walk.

It looks like a prison, as it is behind a very tall fence and it is hidden from the city centre. If you go to the game for the first time, you can buy ticket to any stand for 5zl (1 pound).
