Digital media is king and it dominates our lives. Whether we're watching movies or TV shows on our TVs in our bedrooms, on our cellphones when we're out, or using Alexa devices in our kitchens, we can't escape digital media.
These new technologies are making our lives easier and more convenient, so I say let's embrace them!
Personally, I think this is a great thing. As technology becomes more and more of an extension of our humanity, things become easier. Knowledge is more conveniently learned, we are never not entertained, and we are in constant connection with friends and family. Some people like to criticize the inundation of technology in our lives, but I say embrace it! This is precisely why I get excited to learn about new ways to interact with the digital space like streaming software suites and media centers. These new technologies are making our lives easier and more convenient, so I say let's embrace them!
A media center is a type of electronic device that allows you to access all of your digital media sources in one convenient location.
I don't know about you, but I hate having to constantly switch between menu after menu and put up with remembering all the little design and functionality quirks of every streaming and media platform that I use. Because, of course, none of them are uniform. Going from Hulu to Netflix, for instance, sometimes makes me feel like I have to relearn each app every time I revisit. Media Centers like Kodi, Plex, or the one we will be taking a look at today, Stremio make life so much simpler when it comes to streaming video or accessing pictures and music.
With a media center, you can manage all of your content in one convenient location. This makes it easier to access information on any device. Plus, with services like Stremio, you no longer have to worry about keeping track of which videos are on which drivers and which movies and shows are currently streaming.
Additionally, Stremio is also considerably cheaper than Kodi - though it may not offer as many features and options, it's definitely a much more affordable option overall.
First, it is important to know that Stremio addons are not installed directly on your device or computer. They are instead stored on the Stremio servers, which means that Stremio takes on all the risk - in the event of a malicious third-party developer who wants to try and hide viruses or tracking software into their addon. Additionally, media centers like Kodi or Plex (which place the user's risk onto themselves) can be safer to use than Stremio because they do not store addons on servers.
Although some users may find customizing Stremio's interface to be a hindrance, it can also be viewed as a blessing in that there is no risk of breaking the installation if user's skins or builds are customized.
Now that we have looked at both Stremio and media centers in general, it seems like Stemio may be the perfect route for anyone who is just getting started with using media centers. Its user-friendly layout and intuitive features make it perfect for any person to use, no matter their experience level. However, before we make a decision about whether or not to invest in Stemio, let's take a closer look at it to see if it is truly the right fit for us.
Design
As I have already alluded to, Stremio's design is extremely intuitive. In fact, I almost prefer it to the designs of, say, Netflix or Hulu. It is very easy to use and, more importantly, it is tailored to your tastes. Upon installation, for example, you will be asked to choose at least three main categories of different types of content. From these selections, Stremio will learn what you enjoy and recommend similar content for you.
The main screen of Stremio displays a long list of suggested videos. Some of these videos will be available to stream, while others are simply suggestions that Stremio believes you might be interested in. If you would rather search for a specific movie or television show, you can do so using the search bar on the top of the screen.
On the left-hand side of the board, you can filter content by genre and category. Filter content with ease by clicking on any of the following: Movies, Series, Channels, TV Channels, Top, Oscar Winners, and then a list of genres. You can also conveniently access your own addons. So for instance if you have Netflix, Vodo, Hulu, iTunes, Amazon, YouTube or Twitch account - once they have been linked you can quickly switch between them here.
Content
Despite its expansive library of titles (TV series, channels, movies, etc.), Stremio does not offer as many addons as other more popular rivals. There are a few addons available, but they are not nearly as plentiful as those found on Kodi or Plex.
Stremio also offers syncing with Trakt. This will allow you to, assuming you have already created and linked your Trakt account with Stremio, keep track of all the content that you watch. It is a fun and convenient way to remember what you have already seen, as well as make recommendations to friends and family.
The built-in Stremio calendar keeps track of which ongoing series air new episodes and when, so you never have to miss your favorite shows again.
Desktop and Mobile Experience
Streemo is an easily accessible media streaming service that works on a variety of devices. Whether you are using Streemo on your smartphone, PlayStation 4, Xbox, Roku, Chromecast, Roku, Mac, Windows or Linux - there is a good chance you can use it to stream content.
I love that Stremio is always user-friendly and dependable, no matter what device I access it on.
Pricing and Plans
Stremio is a free and open-source application that allows users to browse the library of media files and access the media center itself. However, in order to get the most out of Stremio, users will need at least one streaming service. This will cost them. Personally, I find that Stremio becomes more useful when users have numerous streaming services to link together. After all, that's kind of the point!
Suggestions that I have for Stremio
I think it would be beneficial for Stremio if they offered more add-ons than they currently do. This would give their media center a competitive edge and make it easier for users to access the features they are looking for.
