History and description

It currently holds around 30,000 people and is used for a range of events, including rugby league, cricket, concerts and soccer. Suncorp Stadium is a large stadium that was built many years ago. The Reverend John Dunmore Lang, who had been instrumental in bringing immigrants to Brisbane in the mid 19th century, dedicated a park in his honor on the site of an earlier racetrack. The park held multiple sports facilities including a cycling and athletics track. From the 1930s onwards, soccer was regularly played at the ground.

In 1962, the stadium was built and it stopped being a public recreational facility. In 1975, the Ron McAulife Stand was built and in 1994 the Frank Burke Stand got replaced. In those decades, the stadium mainly was used for rugby and soccer.

The city of Brisbane put together a plan for a new stadium in the late 1990s, but started work on it in 2001 and finished it three years later.

The stadium had already been renamed Suncorp Stadium following a naming rights sponsorship deal.

How to get to Suncorp Stadium

The stadium is also adjacent to the Queensland Entertainment Centre and Queensland Parliament Buildings. Suncorp Stadium is located in central Brisbane, just west of the central business district (CBD) and just north of the South Bank of the Brisbane River.
