History and description

The Teddy Stadium was built in 1990 by the city of Jerusalem as a large football stadium was needed due to the city lacking one. Mayor Teddy Kollek had been a strong advocate for the construction of the stadium and it was named after him. After completion, Beitar Jerusalem and Hapoel Jerusalem moved into the stadium.

Teddy Stadium, which opened its doors in 1991, was officially inaugurated in 1992.

In 1998, the stadium consisted of only two stands on both sides with a capacity of 13,000 seats. In 2013, the stadium was completed with the construction of the South Stand which increased its capacity to 21,600 seats. There have been a few minor refurbishments to the stadium in recent years.

There have been tentative plans to expand the stadium to a capacity of fifty thousand seats, but these are not concrete at the moment.

Beitar Nordia Jerusalem play in the fourth division. The stadium is also the home of lower league clubs Hapoel Katamon Jerusalem and Beitar Nordia Jerusalem. Together, they comprise the home ground of Beitar Jerusalem, a team in the Israeli Premier League. Hapoel Jerusalem dissolved in 2019. Beitar Nordia Jerusalem play in the fourth division.

Teddy Stadium is regularly used to host matches of the Israel national team. The facilities are better at Teddy Stadium than at the national stadium, Ramat Gan Stadium.

How to get to Teddy Stadium

The stadium was built in 1948 and used mostly by football clubs from the Arab league. It has a capacity of 30,000 people. The Teddy Stadium is located in the Malha area of the southern edge of Jerusalem and lies about 5 kilometers away from the Old City. The stadium was originally built in 1948 to serve as a football stadium for clubs from the Arab League. In recent years, it has been used more often by Israeli Football Clubs because of its proximity to the western part of Jerusalem which is undergoing development. The stadium currently has a capacity of 30,000 people. The Jerusalem high-speed railway station and long-distance bus terminal Yitzhak Navon are located on the western edge of the city, nearly 6 kilometers from the stadium.

To get to the stadium from Yitzhak Navok take express bus 6 or 31, or regular bus 14. You can also take bus 17 from Shivtei Israel Street or Mordehai A?liash Street, or bus 77 from King George Street.

If coming from Jerusalem, take the new line and transfer at Ben Yehuda. The Teddy Stadium lies right next to Malha railway stadium, which was used to be the last stop on the old Tel Aviv-Jerusalem line. If coming from Tel Aviv, it can still be more convenient to take the slow train (with transfer) directly to the stadium. If coming from Jerusalem, take the new line and transfer at Ben Yehuda.

Beitar Jerusalem Tickets

Beitar tickets can be bought online or in person through the Leaan agency at 42 Frishman Street in Tel Aviv city center. Expect to pay from NIS 55.00 to NIS 80.00 for a ticket.
