There is an enthusiastic community of volunteers around the world who are devoted to finding, creating, and translating subtitled movies and TV shows. These people work tirelessly, often for free, all year long in order to offer their services. They strive to provide the best subtitles possible and work tirelessly to ensure that all closed captions, syncing, or translating subtitles are of the highest quality.
Consider it a form of altruism to subtitle movies, TV shows, and documentaries for free. Access to educational, informative, or artistic content is power, and subtitlers widen the horizons of access by providing subtitles for movies, TV shows, and documentaries for everyone regardless of culture, linguistic barriers, or disability.
Since shows and movies are created in the original language, this means that they are only accessible to those who can understand it. This is because many of the words and phrases used will be unfamiliar to most people, as well as cultural barriers that may prevent people from understanding it. Although this wasn't intentional, it is a result of creating content in one's own native language.
Not all forms of exclusion are intentional or explicit. Translating a work from one language to another can exclude people who do not speak the original language. A writer obviously cannot be held accountable or expected to write in every language that exists. That would be ridiculous (and impossible). Obviously, a writer is going to write in his or her language, which is the fact that language inherently excludes people. However, translators and subtitlers may work towards making art more inclusive by subtitle and translating movies, TV shows, and documentaries.
Without subtitles, hearing-impaired people would not be able to watch movies and TV shows in the language they prefer, no matter how hard they try to lip-read every line. This exclusion is compounded by the fact that subtitles are typically attributed to a particular group of people - the deaf and hearing impaired. Although this may seem like an easy task, it's actually quite difficult to interpret every conversation in a movie or television show without subtitles. Subtitles make film and television more accessible for everyone, not just those who can hear well.
This is why there are thriving and active communities of subtitle enthusiasts out there, hard at work, translating every piece of audio in a movie into words. Or translating those words into other words of a different language. It is truly a noble task. And I applaud and salute all of those who utilize their free time to help others in this way. You deserve far more credit and appreciation than you receive.
Although subtitling can be a challenging and time-consuming task, the people who dedicate themselves to it are passionate about improving the quality of subtitles for others. Consequently, subtitle sites are usually more than just a site from which you can download subtitles; they provide helpful information, tools, and community resources.
A lot of subtitling sites are robust and enthusiastic communities of people who care about subtitling in one way or another. And, of course, they care about movies and TV too. So, even if you're not as interested in creating subtitles yourself, these communities are likely to have plenty of conversations that you're likely to enjoy.
Which is why I look at the forum feature when evaluating a subtitles site. This is standard on such sites, as at least there is some kind of discussion forum for subtitlesters and movie enthusiasts to discuss their techniques, their favorite films, and find high and low-quality subtitles.
This site, however, is not necessarily going to make or break a site. I suppose, at the end of the day, it really just boils down to what you hope to get out of your subtitle site. Are you someone who likes to participate in creating subtitles? Or are you someone who simply needs a reliable and user-friendly means of accessing subtitle files quickly? If the latter is the case, today's site is probably right up your alley.
Titlovi falls squarely into the first category, which is great because it means you can easily find what you're looking for. Titlovi is a Bosnian subtitles site that is highly popular for its forum-based layout and helpful community. There are two types of subtitles sites on the web: those that are majority forum based, and those that put their subtitles and movie info forward but also have forums and plenty of community features. Titlovi falls squarely into the first category, which is great because it means you can easily find what you're looking for.
I am happy to report that Titlovi seems to be the best of both worlds. They have managed to provide tons of high-quality subtitles, some of the best subtitles site design that I have seen to date, and an active and thriving community. Could Titlovi be the best subtitles site of 2020? Well, let's dive in and find out!

I just said that Titlovi's site design is some of the best I've seen when it comes to subtitles sites. Unfortunately, their site design is not always stellar, responsive, or user-friendly. In fact, more often than not, subtitles sites will be very shoddily thrown together, extremely data-heavy, and unpleasant to look at.
I was pleased to find that Titlovi is a well-designed and image-based site. The high resolution images of movie posters and featured items speckle the front page in a way that makes the site look less like a traditional subtitles site and more like an entertainment news site.
The site menu bar is responsive and offers dropdown menus with a flare of style when you hover your cursor over them. You can choose from the following: Home, Articles, Subtitles, Movies, Series, Forums. Or, above the site menu bar, you can always type in whatever title you are looking for and just conduct an easy search straightaway.
I have one design complaint about their subtitle search feature - it could be made much easier to use. For example, a more complex tag system could help. Additionally, being able to browse by language would be greatly helpful.

Content and Features

The site menu bar on Titlovi tells a very different story than the one portrayed by the website's banner. This is not just another website where you can access high-quality subtitles; Titlovi has many other functions as well, such as a news site, film and TV series archive, and information site. Additionally, it is also a forum.
On Titlovi, you can read up on recent movie announcements, box office numbers, and film and TV show reviews. This site has the potential to be your one-stop-shop for all things related to media.
On the forum, you can discuss anything you like. Posts about movies and TV shows are common, but this is an open space where community members can share any thoughts or ideas that interest them (assuming they abide by the forum guidelines).
There are currently over 14,000 pages of subtitles available for Titlovi.

Mobile and Desktop Experience

Titlovi is designed especially for mobile devices, so its interface is different and equally easy to use when you access the site on your phone or tablet. I'm glad to see that Titlovi offers such a mobile-friendly experience.

Suggestions that I have for Titlovi

I believe that Titlovi should expand their browsing and searching tools in order to make it easier for users to find what they are looking for. A solid tags system outlining, say, actors, languages, movies, networks, etc., would make it much easier to browse the enormous archive of movies that Titlovi has subtitles for. Additionally, an advanced search function would be beneficial in helping users find the content they are looking for more quickly.
