Watching video content on the internet has become something of a pastime for me. It is one of my favorite activities. I can easily get sucked in for hours at a time. All it takes is clicking on one video and, poof, the next thing I know five hours have gone by. It's quite incredible, really.
I am never bored!
Some nights I love the ones where I intentionally go down the YouTube rabbit hole. One video quickly leads to the next, which leads to the next, which leads to the next. endlessly. For someone with pretty severe insomnia like me, streaming sites like YouTube (and others, of course) have been a godsend. I never have to run out of fascinating, fun, interesting, educational, baffling, or hilarious video content. Even when the night bleeds into the morning or well into the afternoon. I am never bored!
In these situations, it can be helpful to have a digital copy of the video on your device.
For the occasional video, you need to have it on your device ?? That means either keeping it on your hard drive or having a digital copy of it. Sometimes our internet goes out or we want to watch a particular video but can't access wifi ?? like for example when we're on a plane. Having the video digitally stored on our device can be really helpful in these situations.
Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox extensions, now help you never have to be deprived of videos again. Video DownloadHelper is an addon that will help you download videos.
Video DownloadHelper can help you download videos from YouTube that don't have downloadable links. It works with HTTPS links, so any YouTube video can be downloaded easily. This addon is a game changer! Let's take a look at what it has to offer and how it can help you.
History
Video Download Helper is the third most popular extension on Mozilla Firefox as of December 2019. It comes in third after Ad Block Plus and U Block Origin and has a grand total of 2,848,968 users as of December 2019. I would presume that this number has only gotten larger since then.
Video Download Helper is a free and open source software program that relies on donations from users to operate. Of the money donated, Video Download Helper is also very philanthropic, contributing $154,825 to 4,413 individual projects on Kiva as of March 3rd, 2020.
I think that more tech companies and organizations should be donating to Video DownloadHelper. So I am happy to either donate or to purchase the premium version of the extension, if it seems useful. It's too rare for a software company to make a difference, and I believe that they should be rewarded for doing so.
Design
I don't believe that we will be able to have too drawn out of a discussion about the design of Video Download Helper, but it is fairly easy to install and use. Simply click on the extension's icon in the corner of your browser of choice and a dropdown menu will appear. From there, you have a few options: Quick Download, Download and Convert, Add to Blacklist, Details, Delete, or Pin. So, very simple, as you can see, extremely easy to use, and about as user-friendly as it gets-really.
Video DownloadHelper makes downloading videos a breeze, with a download manager to keep track of your progress and quick access to the videos once they're finished downloading.
Content
Video DownloadHelper helps you to conveniently download video files from websites like YouTube and Dailymotion. It also converts videos to other formats, so you can easily listen to your favorite music videos without having to go through third-party websites.
Video DownloadHelper can download videos and convert them, as well as aggregate videos into one file. You can also create your own customized video playlists and video compilations with a few clicks.
With Video Download Helper, you can also download photos and entire photo albums with ease. Never lose a photo again! Keep everything important to you by using this extension.
Unfortunately, though, while what you can do with Video Download Helper is slightly limited, it is still more versatile than either Chrome or Firefox. For example, Firefox users can download YouTube videos while Chrome users cannot.
Pricing and Plans
The basic version of the Video DownloadHelper extension is completely free to use, but if you want access to its premium features, such as no download restrictions, no watermark on converted videos, and the ability to convert to audio-only formats, it will cost you?but not much.
For a lifetime subscription to Video Download Helper, you can either pay a one time fee of $14.99, or choose to pay monthly for $0.99 per month for Video Download Helper Premium. Or, if you prefer, you can always opt to pay yearly for premium - at $8.99 per year. If you want my opinion, though, just pay the 15 bucks for a lifetime membership!
Otherwise, you're already paying twice that for just two years! But you can also always just try it for a month for a buck and see if you like it first. The prices, I think, for the premium subscription to Video Download Helper are more than fair.
Suggestions that I have for Video Download Helper
I would like the addon's capabilities to be expanded a bit more when it comes to Google Chrome. I hate the fact, for example, that I cannot download YouTube videos with Video DownloadHelper on Chrome. However, this is most likely more of an issue with Google than it is with Video DownloadHelper, as you are able to do this on the Firefox version.
An app could never hurt. If I could use Video Download Helper directly on my computer, that would be awesome. But, still, for what it is, as a desktop extension, it is excellent.
