History and description

Weserstadion was built in 1909 as a general sports field. It has been used sporadically for football matches since its construction. Werder have played in the Bundesliga since 1966. The first big stand was built in 1926 and Werder Bremen moved into to play their home matches at the ground in 1930. Werder have played in the Bundesliga since 1966.

In 1935, Weserstadion was taken over by the city of Bremen and it was used primarily for political purposes of the ruling Nazi Party during the following years. In 1945, anti-aircraft guns were stationed at the stadium during the Second World War.

Weserstadion underwent a variety of updates in the mid-1960s, including the installation of a new cover on the North Stand and an extra tier for both curves. The main stand (South Stand) received a new roof in 1973, and the opposite North Stand was completely rebuilt in 1978.

Today the stadium is in great condition, with all its stands looking very modern and stylish.

The Weserstadion application to be a playing venue during the 2006 World Cup was rejected.

In 2008, Werder began a new round of redevelopment works to modernize their stadium. The pitch was dug out and the stands were extended closer to the pitch, both curves were rebuilt in a rectangular shape, corporate facilities were improved, and a new roof was installed with solar panels. Works were completed in the summer of 2011.

The club had initially planned to add a third tier to the stadium, but this was abandoned because of rising costs. The third tier would have cost too much money and the club decided not to add it.

The club works with local authorities to enforce the restrictions. On matchdays, the area around the stadium is closed off to cars. The club offers various shuttle services from designated parking areas. Signs are posted from the access roads, and the club works with local authorities to enforce the restrictions.

I went there and it's a great trip to go by boat through the river Weser directly to it. It's a beautiful place right in the city center, like the stadiums in London. Lovely. All other German universities have a tendency to be outside of the cities. Cheers!

I absolutely love the stadium in Germany. It is located right by the water and is surrounded by beautiful cityscape. The stadium has solar panels on the roof and walls that gives it a Look of modernity and cleanliness. The catering is good, and I have had a great time at the stadium. It still feels cozy, which I love.

Hands down the most beautiful stadium in Germany.

The city's iconic clock tower can also be seen from anywhere in the stadium. The stadium sits next to the water and is close to the city center. The beautiful city center can be seen from anywhere in the stadium. The solar panels on the stadium roof and walls glow in the sunlight, and the city's iconic clock tower can also be seen from anywhere in the stadium.

The catering is good and the feeling inside exciting and still cozy.
